Your Photography Questions Answered
There are tons of questions I receive from clients but I thought I would address some of the most asked. If you have any questions, feel free to email them to [email protected].
How would you describe your style of photography?
Whimsical, full of color, use of stunning natural light, different from what you see from 100 other photographers. I want to capture who you are. The raw you. Not the posed, perfect you. Those moments where you are laughing so hard you have tears streaming down your face and forget anyone is watching.
What is the best time of day to do an outdoor shoot and why?
My favorite time will always be at sunset. The lighting that you get is a beautiful golden light that flatters everyone. If sunset isn’t an option for your schedule, morning light can also be very nice. A much more cooler light than dusk but still equally as lovely. You never want to shoot in the middle of the day when it’s too bright. This can cause you to squint or give deep shadows on the face which is never flattering. The only exception for a middle of the day shoot is when it’s overcast.
I’m not good at posing, do you direct me?
Yes! The goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible and get a natural look to your photos. Don’t overthink it or feel nervous. I’ll walk you through everything. We’ll keep it simple and get an incredible result.
How long does it normally take to get my photos after a shoot?
For family and portrait shoots I alway try to send one or two the day after your session. Keep in mind that editing can take some time. There is also the chance that I have other photoshoots on the schedule as well, so I always tell the client to allow a week or two until they receive all of the final images. That being said, I usually start uploading each photo as soon as they are completed.
For weddings it can take a bit longer to get your final images. Within the first week I usually try to have about 25 of the best shots of the day. I know how excited you will be to get a first look to share with friends and family. Additional photo completion is done on a case by case basis depending on the amount of photos.
Why should I pay you $250 when some other photographers only charge me $125?
The saying “you get what you pay for” really is true. This isn’t my hobby, I’m a professional. I do this for a living and do it well. When you book with me, you don’t just get photos, you get an experience. I take incredible attention to detail from the moment I snap the photo to the moment you get your final images.
I went to a drugstore to have my photos printed and they asked for a copyright release, what is this?
All photographers own the rights to photos because they are the ones who took them. Just like a singer owns the rights to their song, because they recorded it. If a printer prints someone else photos without permission, they are breaking copyright law. If you click “yes” online when you are asked if you “own the copyright” to a photo, you to are breaking copyright law.
Why don’t I own my photos?
Well, this is a difficult one for many to understand. As a photographer, these photos are my livelihood. My goal isn’t just to take great photos but to give amazing prints to my clients as well. Part of a photographers business is prints. The minute we give or sell the copyright to our photos, we have lost all rights to them. We can’t print, edit or do anything with them. In this case, most photographers will charge a fee for the copyright, which can vary depending on the amount of photos. The reason for this is simple. This fee compensates us for the loss of business due to the client using other printing companies.
Why should I order my prints through you? I can get them cheaper with Walgreens etc?
This one is easy to answer, a professional printing company will give you a far more superior print than a drugstore photo lab. They simply don’t have the equipment that the pros have. One of the companies I love to work with is www.millerlab.com. Everything I have ever received from them has been stunning. Photographs should be displayed, they should be treated as if it was a piece of art in your home because, to be honest, those memories are more priceless than any art you’d ever own. Make sure you get the best quality photo possible.
If you’re a person that’s looking to treasure and display your photos on something other than social media, I am the photographer you want to book. With Christopher Peavey Photography, your photos will be a beautiful memory, captured as a piece of art, passed along for generations to come.
I may not have the lowest price but my quality will be the highest.
